Baritone Gregory G.D. Lewis began his vocal studies in the Pacific Northwest in 2001.  Promptly following his nascence in solo vocal performance, Gregory was invited to audition for the Tacoma Opera.  Since then Lewis has been honored to embark on a professional career earning a reputation of vocal expression, dynamic characterization and powerful acting.

Lewis was honored to be the first recipient of Tacoma Opera's Bernard Dickson Memorial Young Artist Fund and was subsequently cast in his first main stage role as Marquis D'Obigny in Verdi's La Traviata, in 2002. After his performance with the Tacoma Opera, Lewis was invited to perform the role of Dottore Grenvil in La Traviata at the "Oberlin in Italy" program in Urbania, Italy. Continuing in the Tacoma Opera's Young Artist program, he was part of the Tacoma Opera's first "CenterStage Program," performing in the role of Ben in Menotti's The Telephone. Simultaneously he was cast as the title role in their production of The Night Harry Stopped Smoking, an opera that toured Western Washington.

Lewis returned to perform in their production of Pasatieri's La Divina in the role of Haemon and in Puccini's Madama Butterfly in the role of Prince Yamadori, in 2004. The following year he was invited to perform the role of Sciarrone in Puccini's Tosca with the Tacoma Opera. Mr. Lewis made his Kitsap Opera debut as Dr. Falke in their Nov. 2006 production of J. Strauss' Die Fledermaus. Mr. Lewis sang in the Seattle Opera Chorus from 2004-2008, singing for such eminent conductors as Robert Spano, Nicola Luisotti, Asher Fisch, and Edoardo Muller.

In 2007, Mr. Lewis made his debut performance in the Midwest in the title role of Hiawatha in Robert Hanson's Hiawatha with the Elgin Choral Union. In the same year, he was invited back to perform as Baritone soloist in the Elgin Choral Union's production of Handel's Messiah. In January of 2008, Gregory made his Opera Quad-Cities debut performing the role of Count Ceprano in their production of Verdi's Rigoletto. In the summer of 2008, Lewis returned to Seattle to sing for their summer production of Aida and was honored to be a finalist in the 2008 Sun Valley Opera Competition held in Seattle.

 

2009 will see Lewis make his debut with six companies. 

February 2009 saw Gregory make his debut with the Muddy River Opera Company creating the role of Mentor Graham, (The man who taught Lincoln), in the World Premiere of Abe, The Musical, by Lee Goldsmith and Roger Anderson.

Gregory was pleased to sing as the Baritone Soloist in the UIC production of Schubert's Mass in G, D 167 in May of 2009.

The summer of 2009 marked his debut with The Atlantic Coast Opera Festival  in Philadelphia singing the role of Schaunard in  their July 2009 production of Puccini's La bohème.

Promptly following La boheme,Lewis  returned to the Pacific Northwest in August 2009 to make his debut with the Lyric Opera Northwest performing the role of Silvio in their production of I Pagliacci

Lewis is scheduled to sing as Baritone Soloist in a concert including Copland's Old American Songs on November 15, 2009 in Buffalo Grove, IL as Guest artist for the regions Honors Orchestra.

He is also scheduled to debut with the Knox-Galesburg Community Chorus and Symphony as their Baritone Soloist for their December 12th concert of Haydn's Mass in Time of War.  After which Lewis is engaged to return to the Elgin Choral Union season singing as Baritone Soloist for their Holiday Concert including Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on Christmas Carols and Finzi's In Terra Pax December 19th and 20th.

Gregory is excited to return to the Galesburg Community Chorus as their Baritone Soloist for their May 2010 Concert A Night of Opera

In May Lewis will be simultaneously rehearsing for his return to the Muddy River Opera Company to sing the role of Principe Yamadori for their May production of Madama Butterfly.

In July Lewis is thrilled to make his debut with Music by the Lake performing the role of Barone Douphol for their summer production of La Traviata

Gregory is priviliged to debut the role of Valentin for The Philadelphia Independent Opera and Theater's inaugural production of Gounod's Faust which due to economic hardships has been postponed.

Mr. Lewis is an adjunct voice teacher at Knox College and teaches privately in Galesburg, IL where he makes his home with his wife, Sarah Moran.
